DESCRIPTION: EPW - Perigal, London (Francis, New Bond Street, 1770, Clockmakers Company 1781 until his death in 1824, Watchmaker to King George III), gold repoussé verge fusee, 46mm, 22K gold OF original pair cases bearing remnant London hallmarks, The repoussé outer with dramatic scene from the Aeneid or other classic, KWKS, arcaded WED in Continental style, gilt stamped hands in Continental style, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock, s#1124. Gross weight of assembled watch 53.0 dwt (82.5 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, the watch obviously wet at some point and with ample rust throughout, remaining complete; dial chipped to copper around latch slot; hands oversize, the minute broken and crudely fitted at square; original outer case shows little wear, few MFS, no dents or dings, good facial detail; button latch good; original very thin gauge inner case shows little wear, profuse MFS, crinkled dents and dings to "oilcan" back; bow & pendant original, bow pivoting freely, little worn; good domed bull's-eye glass crystal.
